WINTER OLYMPICS 2010 AND PARTICIPATING NATIONS

The 2010 Winter Olympics, officially the XXI Olympic Winter Games or the 21st Winter Olympics, will be a major international multi-sport event held on February 12–28, 2010, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with some events held in the resort town of Whistler, British Columbia and in the Vancouver suburb of Richmond. 
 
Both the Olympic and Paralympic Games are being organized by the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC). The 2010 Winter Olympics will be the third Olympics hosted by Canada, and the first by the province of British Columbia. Previously, Canada was home to the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec and the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta.Vancouver will welcome some 2,500 athletes to the 2010 Winter Olympics at Friday's opening ceremony.

From February 12 to 28, 2010, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games will take place. During these 17 days, 86 Olympic Winter Games' medal events will be featured and 5,500 athletes and team officials will participate. Competitors from over 80 countries will compete in 15 different sports, at 15 different venues.
Two new medal events have been added for the first time to the Winter Olympic Games. They are the men's and women's ski cross, which is a ski race of a group of four skiers on a special downhill course.
